# Refer a Friend

> Send your link to another company. It gets a longer trial, and you get a month free when it pays.

Refer a Friend gives another company a longer free trial. When that company pays its first invoice, your organization gets one month of its plan free.

## Your link

**Settings → Refer a Friend** shows your organization's link. Every member sees the same link, and every referral counts for the organization.

Copy the link and send it to the company yourself. We send no mail to the people you refer.

A card at the bottom of the sidebar opens the same page. It shows only while your organization pays for a plan. Its **×** hides the card for a while in this browser. The page stays in Settings.

## What the other company gets

The link opens the signup page with your organization's name and the longer trial. The trial works as every trial does: no card, on the limits of the tier the company picks. [Plan limits](/reference/limits) states how long it lasts.

The link counts only when the company signs up through it. The code stays in that browser for some days, so the company can sign up later from the same browser.

## What you get

When the company pays its first invoice, we add a credit to your organization's account. The credit equals one month of your plan at its monthly list price, excluding VAT. It is never more than the company paid for that invoice, excluding VAT. Your plan when the company pays sets the amount.

The credit pays your next invoices before your card does. On a yearly plan, it waits for the next invoice: a renewal, or an upgrade.

We tell your admins by email when a credit arrives.

## When a referral earns nothing

A company still gets the longer trial in these cases, but your organization gets no credit:

* Your organization reached the yearly limit of credits. [Plan limits](/reference/limits) states the limit.
* We refunded the company's first invoice. We then remove the credit.

A company does not count as a referral in these cases:

* It shares an email domain with your organization. A colleague belongs in your organization: add them under **Settings → Organization**.
* Another organization already uses its email domain.
* It already had an organization, or it already pays.
* It signed up without the link.

If a company used another way in by mistake, write to us. We can add the referral by hand before its first invoice.

## The statuses on the page

| Status                                | Meaning                                                                |
| ------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Trial                                 | The company signed up through your link and has not paid yet.          |
| Subscribed, credit on its way         | The company paid. The credit reaches your account in a few minutes.    |
| Subscribed, credited                  | The credit is on your account. The row states the amount.              |
| Subscribed, past the yearly limit     | The company paid, but your organization reached the limit.             |
| Subscribed, we add the credit by hand | Your plan has no monthly list price, so we settle the credit with you. |
| Credit reversed after a refund        | We refunded the company, so we removed the credit.                     |

The page names each company by its email domain, never by a person.
